On February 23, 2025, Detroit’s fashion scene was elevated to new heights at the highly anticipated 7th Annual Rags $2 Riches Fashion Show & Gala. Hosted at the stunning Norwood Detroit, the event was a dazzling celebration of thrifted fashion, artistry, and the power of transformation.
Curated by the visionary Stephanie Bedell, known as The Bag Ladie, the evening was a masterclass in sustainability and individuality. Every single look on the runway was entirely thrifted, meticulously hand-selected, and styled by The Bag Ladie herself, proving that secondhand fashion can be just as luxurious and captivating as high-end couture.
A Night of Elegance: Where Fashion Meets Conscious Glamour
As guests arrived at The Norwood, they were welcomed into an atmosphere of sophistication and community. The all-black dress code set the tone for an effortlessly chic and unified aesthetic, making the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable night. The excitement was palpable as fashion lovers, influencers, and creatives gathered to witness the artistry behind upcycled, thrifted style.
Runway Royalty: The Art of Secondhand Chic
The highlight of the night? A breathtaking fashion show that redefined what it means to be stylish and sustainable. Stephanie Bedell, Detroit’s Thrift Queen, once again proved why she reigns supreme, styling an extraordinary collection of looks that blended high fashion with conscious consumerism. Each ensemble on the runway told a story of reinvention and creativity, reinforcing the idea that thrifted fashion is more than just a trend—it’s a movement.
The show was divided into three striking segments, each bringing a unique flair to the runway:

- Thrifted Opulence: Evening Wear Reimagined – A stunning showcase of thrifted glamour, proving that secondhand elegance is timeless.
- Dapper & Distinct: Menswear Reinvented – A bold and stylish presentation of reimagined classics and edgy thrifted menswear.
- Untamed & Unapologetic: Animal Print Extravaganza – Fierce, daring, and full of personality, this segment brought wild energy to the runway.
As Mistress of Ceremony, I had the privilege of guiding the audience through this incredible journey of style and transformation. The energy was electric, with DJ Ray T. Jackson curating the perfect soundtrack to keep the crowd engaged and the vibe alive.
Powering the Movement: The Sponsors Behind the Vision
This extraordinary event was made possible by the generous support of The Salvation Army Southeastern Michigan Thrift Stores and The Norwood. Their sponsorship reinforced the importance of sustainable fashion and community-driven initiatives, making it clear that secondhand fashion isn’t just about affordability—it’s about creativity, environmental consciousness, and a celebration of personal style.
